Women of Pop Culture Issue
Written by Aesthel
We are so happy for you guys to be receiving your copies of Issue #17 of Cosplay Realm Magazine! For August 2018 we decided on the theme “Women of Pop Culture”; inspired by all of the stories we’d been seeing from women speaking up in pop culture over this summer. We are really proud to have an issue of the magazine where we talk about some of these really important social issues and give cosplayers a place to share their personal stories.
Some issues tackled in this month’s issue include representation of women in the media, the #blackcosplayerhere tag (started by @cluelessxbelle), stereotypes in the media, and discrimination within the cosplay community. We were happy to share stories from a ton of different creators through our platform. It has always been a goal of Cosplay Realm to show as much representation as possible without talking over anyone.
Our cover feature this month is on Photography by Amie E. a photographer who is local to us and who we have worked with many times! Amie is a true artist with her work and she has been a huge inspiration to us! In the magazine we have a full interview with her asking about her photography and cosplay. The cover featured cosplayer is Jenevieve Devereaux Cosplay. Her work is absolutely incredible and we really love her Princess Allura cosplay from Voltron! In her feature interview we asked her about her love for the character as well as discrimination in the cosplay community.
By now, those of you who ordered your print copies at the beginning of the month should be receiving them. If you haven’t ordered your copy of this month’s issue yet you can still grab it here! And if you would like to be in our next issue, submissions are still open for a few days! If you have a story you would like to share that you didn’t get the opportunity to have featured in this issue of the magazine feel free to send it to us!
