Cosplay Highlight: The Dungeons & Dragons Project

Recently we here at CRM just published our third annual Dungeons & Dragons issue! These issues are always some of our favorite ones to produce ever since we started doing them, and the section on original designs is always such a big highlight for us!
Today we wanted to share one of our favorite features that was included in this year’s issue, titled The Dungeons & Dragons Project!!
“Oh man! Where to begin??? There were so many different elements that we put together for this project, it took about two months of solid work in total. Dungeons and Dragons was a HUGE thing for me in middle school and high school. A group of my friends used to go with me to my ex-boyfriend’s house once a week and play D&D with his family, his father was always the Dungeon Master (DM). The character I cosplayed is actually an ancient, royal, dark elf turned vampire. I created her way back in the day. Psyzar is her name, power and vengeance are her game.
Needless to say, once I saw the D&D theme I got so very excited! My photographers and I collaborated on ideas for this elaborate photoshoot throughout the process. We have practically a books' worth of photos for each part of the story we created. Our concept was complicated, mixing mediums to tell a story.
You see a small group of friends getting together for a game of D&D, then magically I’m sucked through a portal into the game world (it’s the painting which took me a month to create, hanging in the background of the gameplay scenes).
I become my character Psyzar. I even made my own player card from scratch to match a set I had bought which can be seen in my hands during the gameplay scenes.
There are several epic scenes of my character in various parts of my painting and it was especially challenging because this time I had a large part in the editing process, putting Psyzar into my painting. We also have several behind the scenes photographs to show the process. My makeup alone took 6 hours including scars and burns. It was an incredible project!”
