Photographer Highlight: Cubster Cosplay Photography

“My name is Eli. I'm originally from Havana, Cuba, and I'm a cosplay photographer currently living in Riverside AL. Although I work during the weekdays as a customer service representative, I make sure there is time for my true passion, photography. I run a highly publicized Cosplay photography business called Cubster Cosplay Photography.
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, I immigrated to the United States in 2003 with my family. From a young age, I've always been fascinated by capturing moments on film. As a kid, I remember using my 35mm film camera and saving up my money to have the film developed. I would always have a camera around my neck. In 2014 my passion amplified when I started covering the LGBT Pride events in Birmingham as the Central Alabama Pride's Official Photographer. I did this for three years which lead to publications and features in The Advocate Magazine. Then, in 2017, I discovered the world of cosplay which I never knew existed. Since I've always enjoyed superheroes and science fiction movies, this opened a whole new world of possibilities for me as I watched my favorite characters come to life. I had found my nitch.
Without a doubt, photography is my passion. I enjoy every aspect of photography from conception to session and putting my creative touches on the final image during post-production. I love being able to inspire and mentor others to follow their dreams and passions. I feel as though I'm a teacher or mentor at heart and I love that I can pass on the knowledge I've gained through experience to others while doing what I love, create unique, one-of-a-kind art through photography. My number one priority when photographing anyone but especially a cosplayer is to be supportive, spread body positivity, be engaging and uplifting, make them feel comfortable while reassuring them that they look fantastic which helps to boost their self-esteem and make sure they're happy with all aspects of their session. This year, I will be the guest photographer at a local cosplay convention in Birmingham, AL, called Magic City Con in late June .“
