CRM @ Fan Expo Boston 2019

This year the Cosplay Realm Magazine team was once again invited to attend Fan Expo Boston as Press! The con took place over August 16th through August 18th. While the CRM team only attended on Saturday the 17th, the entire weekend was filled with so many fun experiences for con attendees! Being held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, the con provided tons of areas for attendees to look around their dealer’s room, meet celebrity guests, watch panels, and more!
Fan Expo Boston had a wide array of guests including celebrities, voice actors, comic creators, cosplayers, and more! Some of our favorite celebrity guests featured this year included a reunion of The Goonies cast (Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan), Zachary Levi, John Travolta, and Peter Capaldi. Some of the voice actors in attendance included Vanessa Marshall, Paige O’Hara, Jodi Benson, Steve Blum, and many more ranging from cartoons to anime to video games.
Visiting the cosplay guests was especially fun, and we loved meeting many of them who have been in previous issues of Cosplay Realm Magazine! We had a great time chatting with Silhouette Cosplay and Lucky Grim among other cosplay guests! Silhouette Cosplay had a really impressive display at their table, with multiple cosplays on display around them. One thing we especially loved at her table were the “sample sheets” showing off different elements of her cosplays. Silhouette Cosplay puts so much detail and texture into her cosplays, and these sheets were a great way for attendees to feel some of the details that went into these cosplays. At Lucky Grim’s table we saw both cosplays and props on display. We especially loved seeing the feather details of her Mercy cosplay and learning a bit from her about how she made them! We were also super impressed with her Diablo 3 Wizard book prop and seeing the smoke effect in action.
Aside from the featured cosplayer guests, there were also a TON of amazing cosplayers in attendance at the con! Saturday of the convention was also the day of the cosplay competition, so amazing cosplays were out in full force that day. We especially had a lot of fun hanging out with StarsofCassiopeia during our time at the con, who ended up winning best of show in the journeyman level of the cosplay competition! Congratulations! We also took photos at a few of our favorite booths around the convention this year! First up is the book of the Rebel Legion/501st! The Star Wars cosplay groups always have amazing booths that make you feel like you’ve stepped right into Star Wars when you approach them. It’s always fun to visit their droids on display too!
Another booth we really liked visiting was that of Volante Design. Their jackets are so well made, and it was so fun to try on a couple of their different designs!
We loved seeing the official presence from DC Comics at the convention, and their booth had a really nice display right in the middle to show off some of their newest statues and figures.
After a very long and packed day at the convention, the CRM team went home that night in such high spirits. We had such a fun time at Fan Expo Boston this year, and we can’t wait to see what next year’s convention brings!
